Booking.com vs Agoda: Who has the cheapest hotel prices? There is no answer that holds for every trip, because the same room moves with date, rate and hotel. What you can compare is everything that sits on top of the price: taxes, fees, when you pay and what a cancellation costs. We put Booking.com first because its help pages answer those points plainly and its loyalty scheme works from your first sign-in. Agoda sits next to it for a factual comparison. The pages were read in October 2026.
What is inside the price
Booking.com says the price covers all facilities listed under the room type. Whether breakfast, taxes or service charges are included is visible when you compare options and again in the confirmation. Taxes are in or out depending on the property and country. As for a reservation fee, the help page says Booking.com charges none, in so many words: no fees at all.
Agoda's terms of use read differently. The displayed price is generally exclusive of taxes and service fees unless it says otherwise. The final charge can include taxes and fees, and for accommodation and flights an Agoda booking fee, which may appear as a convenience fee in the form. According to the terms that fee is non-refundable unless the law says otherwise. That does not make Agoda dearer in the end. It only means the number in the results list and the amount on the last page need not match.
Currency and add-ons
If you pay in a currency other than the one the property uses, look closely at Agoda. For pay-now bookings the terms allow an additional amount of up to five percent on the exchange rate when charge currency and product currency differ. Agoda names exceptions, among them bookings from IP addresses in the US, Canada and the UK. Paying in the property's own currency avoids it. Your bank may add foreign transaction fees on top, which has nothing to do with either site.
Cancelling and paying
On Booking.com the property sets the cancellation fee. A free-cancellation booking costs nothing, while non-refundable rates can carry a charge. You may ask in your booking whether the property will waive it, but dates cannot be changed on such a rate. The rule is in your confirmation. Payment mostly happens at the property, at check-in or check-out. Some ask for a deposit up to the full amount, and a card is often only a guarantee with a test hold that is returned. Only the property issues an invoice.
Agoda's terms name several ways to pay: pay now, book now and pay later, and pay at the hotel. The booking form shows which one applies to your offer. What cancelling costs is shown per rate in the booking step, and the help centre has its own entries on it, including non-refundable bookings.
Loyalty and price promise
Genius at Booking.com is free. Level 1 gives ten percent off stays after you sign in, applied to the price before taxes and charges. Level 2 follows after 5 bookings in 2 years and Level 3 after 15 bookings in 2 years, with larger discounts and, at select properties, breakfast and room upgrades. The discounts apply at participating properties only, 850,000 worldwide according to the page.
Agoda runs a free VIP programme with several tiers. Agoda shows the criteria and benefits on its platform and may change them. There is also AgodaCash, cashback rewards and a best price guarantee: if you find the same offer cheaper elsewhere after booking, you can file a claim, and Agoda matches the difference when the conditions are met. The terms say this does not cover bookings made through a partner.

Which suits whom
Booking.com fits if you want price, cancellation and payment explained in one readable help section and are happy to pay at the property. A few trips a year get you into the higher Genius levels. That is our pick for city breaks and holidays, without promising it is cheaper for every hotel.
Agoda can pay off if you want to use the price-match claim or the offer for your hotel simply looks better there. Then add up the total on the payment page, not the figure from the list.
For both: put the same room, the same nights and the same cancellation rule side by side. By the way, both belong to Booking Holdings, as the page footers say, yet they are separate sites with their own rates.
Cashback with Booking.com
Booking.com is on daily cashback. Open the Booking.com page, go to the provider from there and book in one session. The current rate is on our provider page. For Agoda we offer no cashback.
