TUI Cars vs Sunny Cars: where is car rental cheaper? Both broker cars from large rental companies and advertise a package with comprehensive and liability cover already in the price. So there is no blanket cheaper car; it depends on destination, dates and car group. The differences lie more in the terms: cancellation deadline, deposit, payment and what the price contains. For a Mediterranean holiday we would start with TUI Cars because mileage, fully comprehensive cover without excess and, at some partners, the second driver are included. What the price contains
TUI Cars calls its prices all-inclusive. They contain comprehensive cover with the excess refunded, liability cover, airport charges, local taxes and, as a rule, unlimited mileage. The additional liability cover comes to 7.5 million euros on top of the national minimum, in the USA and Canada for customers resident in the EEA or Switzerland. Cuba is excluded. What you pay extra on site are child seats, young-driver charges or a one-way rental.
Sunny Cars bundles this in its all-round carefree package. It includes comprehensive cover and theft protection with the excess refunded, the national liability limit and extra liability cover of 10 million euros with HanseMerkur. Damage to glass, roof, tyres and underbody, towing, lost keys and a free cancellation protection are part of it. Airport charges and local taxes are in. You pay child seat, satnav or one-way rental on site. Environmental or tourist levies are shown before booking if they are known.
Cancellation and changes
With TUI Cars, cancelling or rebooking a car stays free until 24 hours before pick-up. After that TUI Cars charges four fifths of the rental price, and early return brings nothing back. According to the page the exception is Go North in Alaska. You can cancel yourself with a form on the website.
Sunny Cars lets you cancel free of charge until one hour before the rental starts, through your travel agent, by phone or in your account. If you do not show up, the full cost is charged as a no-show. You can change the car category up to 24 hours before the start without a fee, and shorten or extend the rental period, subject to availability.
Deposit and payment
Both portals mostly ask for the driver's credit card for the deposit. At TUI Cars the supplier does not accept prepaid cards, and the deposit is as a rule at least the value of a tank of fuel plus the excess. In case of damage the supplier keeps it first and TUI Cars refunds it after review. On the website you pay with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club, PayPal, the TUI Card or direct debit up to a total of 500 euros.
Sunny Cars shows the deposit next to each offer and lets you set a ceiling in the filter. At some destinations there is an optional extra called no deposit, which also removes the need for a credit card, or a cash deposit. You pay by invoice, direct debit, credit card or PayPal, at the latest 14 days before the rental.

Who suits what
TUI Cars fits if you travel around the Mediterranean or the Canaries, plan to drive a lot and have a second driver with you. There the second driver is already in the price at some partners, and mileage is unlimited as a rule. That is our pick for the classic rental-car holiday.
Sunny Cars suits you if the late cancellation option matters to you or you want to rent without a credit card. The no-deposit option and the cash deposit exist at some destinations and solve exactly that problem.
