Dorset Hideaways explained: deposit, cancellation scale, dog charge and check-in times for Dorset cottages, plus cashback through daily cashback.

Dorset Hideaways rents holiday cottages and homes in Dorset and the surrounding area, from small places for two to large houses, some with dogs allowed, a pool or sea views. The company is based in Dorchester and acts as agent for the owners. It suits a self-catering break on the Jurassic Coast or inland.

What you can book there

The selection can be filtered by area, size and features, for example dog friendly, with a garden, wood burner, pool or wheelchair friendly. There are also special offers such as weekend stays with a late departure, four nights for the price of three and 28-night stays. Under the terms, a booking cannot be longer than 28 nights. Gift vouchers and a rewards scheme are offered as well.

What a booking really costs

According to the terms, the rental fee includes heating, electricity and, where supplied, bed linen and towels, plus VAT if applicable. The provider's own booking fee and either a damage waiver or a security deposit are included in the rental fee too. Not included are additional services that you add through the owner or the company.

A charge applies for dogs to help with housekeeping. The property page or customer service gives the amount. A late departure is available at some homes from two nights at certain times of the year, for a fee that must be paid before arrival. If you stay on without permission, you pay the daily rate of the property for the extra time. Normally the rental period starts at 4 pm on arrival day and ends at 10 am on departure day.

Cancellation and payment

If the start date is more than eight weeks away, you pay a deposit of one third of the rental fee, which is non-refundable. The balance is due eight weeks before the start. If you book eight weeks or less ahead, the whole amount is due at once. You can pay by credit card, debit card or bank transfer. For bookings made less than three days before arrival, credit cards are not accepted, you pay by debit card or bank transfer and need to provide two forms of ID, one of them proof of address.

You report a cancellation by email or in writing. The cost depends on how far ahead you cancel: with 57 days or more, you lose the deposit, with 29 to 56 days it is 50 percent of the rental fee, and with 1 to 28 days 100 percent. That is why travel insurance deserves a thought with every booking, as it may cover part of this.

How to save

The site lists special offers and late availability, so look there before booking. And on our provider page you can see how much cashback is possible through daily cashback.

Tips

  • Tell them about dogs when you book. That lets the company confirm whether they are allowed in the chosen home. Registered assistance dogs are welcome in all homes without a fee.
  • Check your booking confirmation right away. Mistakes must be reported within 24 hours.
  • You do not need to bring sheets or towels, they are provided. Children's facilities such as a highchair or travel cot are listed in the property details.
  • If there is a problem during your holiday, contact the person named in your arrival guide first, then the company.
  • The office is staffed Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays.

Booking with cashback

The cashback runs through daily cashback. Open the daily cashback store page for Dorset Hideaways first, click through to the provider from there and then book as usual on its own site. The credit arrives once the booking is confirmed and the trip is completed.

You can see the current cashback rate on our Dorset Hideaways provider page at TripPrice. Current vouchers and deals are listed on that page as well, along with the cashback conditions.
