Aviasales vs Momondo: Where are flights cheaper? Both are search engines that do not sell tickets themselves, and both show prices from airlines and travel agencies. The difference lies in the tools and in how clearly the site shows baggage and fare rules. We name Aviasales first: its help describes how you can filter for tickets with baggage and read the exchange and refund rules at the ticket. We set Momondo next to it factually. Status October 2026.
How the search works
Aviasales says it searches through different airlines and agencies. You pick a ticket, click Buy, and Aviasales redirects you to the seller site. There you enter passenger details and pay. Aviasales holds no tickets itself and per its help charges you no commission, it shows the prices of airlines and agencies. Tickets that several partners offer are listed after you click Select ticket.
Momondo describes itself as a free travel search without surcharges. The site searches hundreds of travel sites and by its own account earns from referral fees paid by partners and from ads, not from fees charged to you. Here too you book with the supplier you are redirected to, not with Momondo. Besides flights Momondo searches hotels and rental cars.
What is in the price
Momondo requires its suppliers to give prices with all mandatory fees and surcharges. Optional items such as seat selection, baggage and meals are added during the booking process at the supplier, according to the help, and you check the final price there. Momondo also writes that suppliers must offer at least one free payment option, while other cards can trigger extra fees.
At Aviasales the ticket card shows airline, places, baggage and number of layovers. If a baggage entry is missing, the seller delivered a fare without baggage, and you can add it later on the seller site. There is a filter to search for tickets with baggage. Prices change constantly, so the amount in the checkout counts.
Changes, refunds and currency
Returning or exchanging a ticket is, says Aviasales, a matter of the booked fare and the carrier. Some fares permit full or partial refunds, plus exchanges with or without a surcharge, while others exclude both. Your contact is the seller whose name is on the itinerary receipt. The same holds at Momondo: questions about changes and cancellations go to the airline or travel agency you booked with.
On currency Momondo points out that some suppliers charge in only a few currencies. If your card provider then converts, it may take a fee for that, and Momondo advises asking it. In the Aviasales app you set country and currency in your profile beforehand.
Watching prices
Aviasales colours the days with the cheapest tickets green in the calendar and offers notifications when the price drops. Its help also recommends buying outbound and return together instead of separately, saying it is cheaper. Momondo offers price alerts for routes, single flights or hotels, plus a price calendar, Anywhere search and Trip Finder. By Momondo these values are estimates built on earlier searches, and the exact price appears only in the concrete search.

Who suits whom
Aviasales fits if you want to account for baggage in the search and prefer to see at a glance which partners offer the same ticket. The green calendar also helps if you are flexible. This is our recommendation for flight searches where suitcases and layovers matter, without saying that Aviasales is always cheaper.
Momondo suits you if you want to search flight, hotel and rental car in one place and use price alerts for routes and hotels.
For both: search with the same data, compare the total including baggage and check the fare rules with the seller. Check the email address before paying, because the ticket is sent there.
Check prices yourself
TripPrice maintains a provider page on Aviasales. More flight comparisons are at Aviasales against Skyscanner and Aviasales against Kayak.
Cashback at Aviasales
Aviasales is on the shop list of daily cashback and has a page there. The page for Aviasales names the current rate, and from there you go on to the provider. Buy the ticket in the same visit. With a redeemed discount code the cashback may be lost.
