How big is the rental car deposit?

Usually a few hundred pounds or dollars, held on your credit card. Extra insurance often lowers it. The amount is in the rental terms.

What is the excess?

It is the amount you pay yourself if the car is damaged. For a fee it can be reduced or removed. Check what the rate includes before you book.

Which fuel policy is best?

Full-to-full is usually cheapest: you get the car full and bring it back full. With full-to-empty you often pay more than the pump price.

Is there cashback on car hire?

With many brokers and rental firms, yes. Rate and conditions are on each provider card.
