Booking.com vs ZenHotels: Who has the cheapest hotel prices? Both sites show a comparable room for many hotels, and the gap in the final amount depends on hotel, date and rate. A blanket answer would be a guess. We put Booking.com first and recommend it, because its help pages explain price, cancellation and payment point by point and Genius applies from your first sign-in. ZenHotels has strengths of its own, mainly in payment. We read the help pages of both in October 2026.
Price and fees
Booking.com says the price covers all facilities of the room type you pick. Whether breakfast, taxes or service charges are in is visible when you compare options and later in the confirmation. Taxes are in or out depending on the property and the country. According to the help page there is no reservation fee. The crossed-out rate is not a saving against other sites but the third-highest price the hotel charges in the 30 days around your arrival, for the same rate conditions.
ZenHotels states in its help that all prices on the site are final, with no commission or booking fee. Charges payable only at the hotel are listed under Important information on the hotel page, which also says whether taxes are included, as that depends on hotel and country. The price shows the total for the guests you entered, sometimes per room. Test it by changing the number of guests.
Currency
ZenHotels lets you display prices in many currencies, but that does not mean you are charged in that currency. If you pay online, the help says you are charged in one of US dollars, euros, pounds, Australian dollars, Bulgarian lev, Malaysian ringgit, Polish zloty, Romanian leu, Singapore dollars or South African rand. You choose it before paying. ZenHotels says it adds no extra fees for that. Your bank may still convert at its own rate if your account is in another currency. If your account runs in euros, paying in euros is the simplest.
Cancelling and changing
On Booking.com the property sets the cancellation fee. A free-cancellation booking costs nothing while a non-refundable rate normally does. You may ask in your booking whether the property will waive it, but dates cannot be changed on that rate. The rule is in the confirmation.
At ZenHotels the hotel's cancellation rule is communicated during booking and in the voucher, according to its terms. You change a booking by email or chat, and some non-refundable bookings cannot be changed. After cancelling you receive an email confirmation, and if none arrives you contact support.
Paying
Booking.com: usually the property takes the money, often at check-in or check-out. Some ask for a deposit up to the full amount, and the card is often a guarantee with a test hold that comes back. Options include cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and in some countries instalments through services such as Klarna. Only the property issues an invoice.
ZenHotels: you can pay online by card or on arrival. If you pay online, the full amount is charged at once and nothing is due at the hotel. If you pay at the hotel, it may ask for a card as a guarantee and block one night or the full amount. The filter No credit card needed is useful, as it shows only offers you can book without card details. Accepted are Visa, American Express, Mastercard, Diners Club, Discover, JCB and Maestro.
Loyalty and service
Genius at Booking.com is free. Level 1 gives ten percent off stays after sign-in, applied to the price before taxes and charges. Level 2 follows after 5 bookings in 2 years and Level 3 after 15 bookings in 2 years, with priority support at Level 3. The discounts apply at participating properties. ZenHotels does not advertise a comparable scheme. For service, ZenHotels offers a help centre, email and chat.

Which suits whom
Booking.com fits if you like to pay at the property and value a scheme that shows effect after a few bookings. That is our pick for city breaks and holidays, without claiming Booking.com is cheaper for every hotel.
ZenHotels fits if you want to reserve without card details or deliberately pay ahead online and choose the charge currency yourself. Then work out the final amount in your card currency.
Same room, same nights, same cancellation rule: only then does a price tell you anything.
Cashback
Booking.com is on daily cashback. Start from the Booking.com page and book in one session. ZenHotels is listed too, see the ZenHotels page. Current rates are on the provider pages for Booking.com and ZenHotels.
