Hotels.com vs Agoda: Who has the cheapest hotel prices? That is decided per hotel and per date, not per site. What you can judge in advance are the rules around the price: how the loyalty scheme works, what happens with fees, when you pay. We put Hotels.com first because One Key works with published tiers you can work out before booking. We treat Agoda factually. Status October 2026.
Loyalty: One Key against VIP
At Hotels.com the loyalty scheme is called One Key, used jointly by Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo. According to the help page a single account fills your OneKeyCash balance and your trip elements across all three sites. The four tiers are Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum: Silver is reached with 5 elements in a year, Gold with 15 and Platinum with 30.
A hotel stay earns one element for each room and each night you complete, however many guests share the room. Each element has to cost at least 25 US dollars before taxes and fees, counted after coupons. Status applies from the day you reach it and runs out at the end of February of the year after next.
Agoda has a free VIP programme which, per its terms, can have several tiers. Which bookings, which spend and which benefits count is set by Agoda and shown on the platform. Agoda may change the programme, and minor adjustments even without advance notice. Add-ons such as upgrades or extra baggage are generally not among the rewarded items.
Price, fees and currency
What Hotels.com says about taxes, fees and cancellation deadline for your rate appears on the booking page of that offer. Read the lines on cancellation deadline and payment there and keep the confirmation.
Agoda lays its cards on the table in the terms of use: prices in the list mostly leave out taxes and service fees. For stays and flights a booking fee is added, which may also read convenience fee in the form. If you pay at once in a currency that differs from the offer, Agoda adds up to five percent to the rate. That says nothing about the final price, it is just a reason to read the last step closely.
Payment methods and cancellation
Depending on the offer you pay Agoda at once, pay Agoda later (Book Now, Pay Later, or Zero Pay with a displayed payment date) or pay the hotel directly. If an amount that falls due is not collected in time, Agoda may cancel the booking. A local tax invoice generally comes from the hotel, not from Agoda.
For cancellations the rate rules. Some reservations cannot be cancelled or changed, and the fee can reach the full price. At Hotels.com you see the rule for the chosen rate before booking and should check the deadline including the time of day.
Best price guarantee and promotions
Agoda offers a best price guarantee: if after booking you find the same room under the same conditions cheaper online, you can file a claim. If it meets the conditions, Agoda matches the difference. Stays booked through partners are excluded. Promotions and promo codes usually cannot be combined, not even with the VIP programme, unless stated otherwise.

Who suits whom
Hotels.com suits you if you book several times a year, also use rental cars or holiday homes through Expedia or Vrbo, and want a status whose thresholds are known. Anyone collecting five elements a year can see in advance when Silver is due. This is our recommendation for frequent bookers, without saying that Hotels.com is always cheaper.
Agoda suits you if the best price guarantee is an argument for you or the room simply looks better there. Pay in the currency of the offer and the possible add-on falls away.
If you travel once a year, loyalty schemes do little for you. Then all that counts is what the same trip costs at each in the end and how flexible it stays.
