FRS Clipper, also known as the Victoria Clipper, is the fast ferry between Seattle and Victoria in British Columbia. It carries passengers only, no cars. It suits anyone who wants a trip between the US Pacific Northwest and Canada without a car, as a day trip or with an overnight stay.
What you can book there
You can book the ferry alone, round trip or one way, or a package with a hotel and activities. The site lists overnight packages, for example with a visit to Butchart Gardens, tea at the Fairmont Empress, the Cowichan wine country or a city tour, as well as day trips. There are also whale watching tours from Seattle. When booking you choose departure city, destination, date and number of passengers, and you can enter a promo or affiliate code.
What a booking really costs
A round trip for one person is about 115 to 160 US dollars according to the company, depending on the season, if you book seven days ahead. The fare is not the whole story though. Luggage is charged extra: you can check up to two pieces, at 20 US dollars or 25 Canadian dollars per piece per leg. Heavier pieces cost more: 51 to 70 pounds is 30 US dollars, over 71 pounds is 40 US dollars. This is paid at the terminal on the day of travel, by credit card only, no cash. Carry-on, one small piece plus a personal item, is included.
Then there are costs the company does not charge: getting to the terminal and parking, food on board, and the stay itself if you do not take a package. If you travel on from Victoria, remember the time change. On 1 November 2026, daylight saving time ends in Seattle, after which Seattle and Victoria are one hour apart in winter.
Cancellation and payment
The rules depend on the fare type. The Advance fare is for round trips only, must be bought at least seven days before travel and is non-refundable. Standard fares, also round trip only, are fully refundable if the cancellation arrives at least two days before travel. Within 48 hours there is no refund. Hotel packages are non-refundable within four days of travel. If you want to change a booking in any way, a 30 US dollar fee applies and you have to contact the company. Requests go through the contact page.
The full amount is paid at the time of booking, and all major credit cards are accepted.
How to save
The Advance fare is cheaper but locks you in. A package with a hotel lowers the ferry price compared with booking it alone, according to the company. The home page lists current promotions, for example for participants in a running event. On top of that, going through daily cashback pays cashback. Whether that also applies to packages and tours is shown on our provider page.
Tips
- You cross a border. US and Canadian citizens need a passport, passport card, an enhanced driver licence or enhanced ID, or a NEXUS card. An ordinary REAL ID is not enough. Children under 16 need proof of citizenship, and if they travel without both parents, a signed consent letter.
- On whale watching tours from Seattle, the boarding pass is enough as ID.
- Allow plenty of time for checking luggage at the terminal.
- Bring a credit card if you check bags.
Booking with cashback
The cashback runs through daily cashback. Open the daily cashback store page for FRS Clipper first, click through to the provider from there and then book as usual on its own site. The credit arrives once the booking is confirmed and the trip is completed.
You can see the current cashback rate on our FRS Clipper provider page at TripPrice. Current vouchers and deals are listed on that page as well, along with the cashback conditions.
