Megabon is a deals portal for hotel stays, wellness weekends and theme park tickets in Europe. You do not buy a finished hotel stay there but a voucher that you redeem at the hotel later. That works well for short trips where you are flexible and like a package with breakfast or half board.
What you can book there
The homepage shows offers for hotels in countries such as Slovenia, Hungary, Austria, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, plus admission tickets for theme parks like Gardaland or Mirabilandia. A typical hotel offer covers two or three nights for two people, often with breakfast or half board and use of the pool, sauna or spa. The price is shown for the package, not per night. According to the provider new offers appear daily and are announced by newsletter. Since deals are time-limited, do not wait too long if a package appeals to you.
What the purchase really costs
The principle is explained in the provider's FAQ: when you buy, you pay only 20 percent of the total value online, and you pay the remaining 80 percent at the hotel when you redeem the voucher. So the voucher price is a deposit, not the final price. Add both parts together when you compare offers.
What the package includes is stated in the offer itself. Anything not mentioned there you pay directly at the hotel, by agreement with the house. That affects extras and children, for instance: each hotel has its own rules for children and possible supplements, listed in the remarks of the offer. If nothing is listed, ask the hotel. Whether local charges such as a tourist tax are included depends on the offer. Check the remarks before you buy.
Process, payment and terms
- You have to register to see and buy offers. In your profile you find all purchased vouchers under My vouchers.
- Each person can buy a maximum of three vouchers. They can be used individually or, by agreement with the hotel, together for a longer stay.
- Payment is by credit card through the payment service Gate2Shop.
- After purchase you book the stay with the hotel directly by email or phone. The contact details are in the offer and on the voucher.
- The voucher does not have to be used on the day of purchase, but within the period given in the remarks of the offer.
- A voucher can be passed on to another person until the hotel has confirmed the booking.
The exact terms for rebooking and cancellation are in the general terms and in the remarks of each offer. Read them before you buy, because the voucher depends on dates and on the hotel's availability.
How to save
The offers often show a crossed-out regular price next to the Megabon price. The provider explains that this is the rack rate a hotel would charge without pre-booking. It is better to compare with the price you see for the same nights directly at the hotel or on a booking site. That tells you whether the package with breakfast and spa is really cheaper. Stays outside peak season are good for savers.
Tips
- Ask for a date early. The voucher does not guarantee your preferred date, because the hotel has to confirm the booking. Write soon after purchase.
- Write down what is included and ask on site for prices of extras if needed.
- Print the voucher or save it offline so you can show it at check-in.
- Watch the validity date in the remarks.
- If children travel with you, clarify price and beds before buying, not on arrival.
Booking with cashback
The cashback runs through daily cashback. First open the daily cashback store page for Megabon Europe, go from there to the provider and book as usual. The credit arrives after the purchase has been confirmed. You can see the current rate on our provider page at TripPrice. Current vouchers and deals are listed there as well.
