Explorer Fernreisen is a German tour operator for round trips and adventure travel to faraway countries. The range runs from Japan and Namibia to Canada, with flights and travel protection on top. It suits people who want a route with hotels, transfers and a programme planned for them but still want someone to call. The site and the service are in German.
What you can book
The home page shows round trips, trips with a rental car, short breaks and winter trips, some with a flight included, some with the flight bookable separately. Prices are shown as a starting price per person, and each trip lists the length, the start month and whether the flight is included. There is also an AI planner called Kompass that builds suggestions from your wishes. Advice is available by phone or WhatsApp.
What the booking really costs
The starting price is only the starting point. It depends on the travel date and on whether you add a flight and extras. The operator terms also tell you what to watch:
- Insurance is not included in the trip price unless stated otherwise. The terms recommend trip cancellation, luggage and health cover, among others.
- Paying with Visa or Mastercard carries no fee from the operator. American Express adds a 3 percent surcharge.
- Switching from bank transfer to credit card or the other way round after booking costs a processing fee of 30 euros.
- The price can rise if transport costs or airport charges go up, but not later than 21 days before departure. If the increase is more than 8 percent, you can withdraw.
Cancellation and payment
A deposit of 35 percent is due when the contract is concluded, and you pay the balance four weeks before departure. Payments before the end of the trip may only be demanded against a security certificate.
You can withdraw at any time, but a flat compensation applies that grows as departure gets closer. It starts at 35 percent of the total price from 42 days before departure and reaches 90 percent from the third day before departure or if you do not show up. The price of arranged extras such as insurance or visas can also be due in full. Rebooking requests from day 30 before departure can only be handled, if at all, as a withdrawal plus a new booking. If you want to be safe, take out trip cancellation cover before you book.
How to save
The page for offers and campaigns lists current promotions. We currently have no coupons for Explorer Fernreisen. If you pay with an Explorer voucher: when a booking is cancelled, the voucher portion generally comes back as a voucher, not as cash. You can see the cashback rate on our provider page. Log in to daily cashback before you click through to the shop, switch off ad blockers and privacy extensions for the booking, and complete the order in one go instead of saving it for later.
Booking with cashback
The cashback runs through daily cashback. Here is how to go about it:
- Open the daily cashback store page for Explorer Fernreisen.
- Click through to Explorer Fernreisen and start your booking from scratch.
- Book as usual and finish everything in one go, in the same browser.
The credit arrives once the trip is confirmed.
Who Explorer is for
Explorer fits when you plan a longer trip to a country where hotels, routes and excursions would otherwise take a lot of research. Count the total honestly: flight, insurance and visa come on top of the base price depending on the trip. If your dates are flexible, look at several start dates, because the starting price only applies to certain departure days. And since the withdrawal scale begins early, book only once your leave and your travel companions are certain.
Tips
- Read the terms before the deposit, especially the scale for withdrawal.
- Check whether you need a visa and who pays for it.
- Pay by bank transfer or Visa and Mastercard if you want to avoid the American Express surcharge.
- The team is reachable on weekdays from 9 to 18 hours, and by appointment outside those times.
