Kiwi.com vs Skyscanner: where are flights cheaper? Both show you connections you may not spot at the airline's own site, but they work differently. Kiwi.com books the trip with the airlines itself and manages it for you. Skyscanner sends you to a partner, who sells. Which way costs less in the end depends on route and date and cannot be said in general. We suggest Kiwi.com if you accept combined flights and want to change or cancel in one place. If you first only want to watch prices, Skyscanner is a good addition. Status: October 2026; our sources are the help sections of both companies.
Who actually books?
Kiwi.com states in its help that after your purchase it makes a reservation with the airlines and manages it on your behalf. For that it sets up a temporary email address and payment details for the booking. Airline messages therefore reach Kiwi.com first, which informs you by email, text or push. On Skyscanner you buy from one of the partners, who then handles booking, payment and questions.
Final price: fare, extras, fees
At Kiwi.com you choose one of three ticket types: Saver, Standard or Flexi. They differ in changes and cancelling. Later changes or extra services can carry processing fees, depending on what you picked when booking. Then there is the Kiwi.com Guarantee, a package with disruption protection, automatic check-in and chat support, which raises the price. Baggage, seats and extras come on top depending on the fare.
Skyscanner calls the prices in month view and Everywhere estimates drawn from searches over the past 8 days. The binding price is the one the partner shows in the booking step. Skyscanner rates its partners on, among other things, price accuracy and fee transparency, based on surveys and support feedback of the last 91 days.
In a price comparison the total with baggage, Guarantee or partner extras is what counts. An offer without the things you need is none.
Combined flights: the price trap and the price advantage
Kiwi.com builds connections from separate tickets, called self-transfer. Example from its help: a direct flight New York to Prague can cost more than two single tickets via Amsterdam. The catch, per Kiwi.com: it is not an official itinerary of the airlines. If the first flight runs late, the airline cares only about its own reservation, not about your connection. You often have to collect and re-check your bags, and depending on the country a visa may be needed. If the connection is too short, Kiwi.com does not offer checked baggage at all.
Skyscanner also labels such trips Self-transfer and says the same: two or more tickets with their own rules, and in a delay you turn to the respective provider. Some partners offer transfer protection. What it covers is stated by the partner.
Kiwi.com is open about two further tricks: Hidden City, where you leave at the stopover, and Throwaway Ticketing, where you skip the return flight. Both can breach an airline's conditions. With Hidden City only hand luggage under the seat is possible. We would suggest them only once you have understood the risks.
Cancelling, changing, refunds
At Kiwi.com you can cancel or change in your account up to 48 hours before departure. With the Saver ticket no change is possible, only cancelling and rebooking. With Standard you pay just the difference on a change. With Flexi you get 80 percent of the airline ticket and airline services back on cancellation, while Kiwi.com fees and other services are not refunded. Without the Guarantee, Saver and Standard carry a refund fee of 30 euros per traveller per flight. Kiwi.com offers no free 24-hour grace period, because most airlines do not.
On Skyscanner everything runs through the partner: cancellation rules and costs are theirs. Skyscanner only helps you find the partner.
Payment and credit
Kiwi.com lists cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Revolut Pay, bank transfer and PIX, depending on currency and region. A promo code goes in at the last step before paying. Kiwi.com Credit is a payment method and the fastest way to receive a refund. On Skyscanner it all depends on the partner.
Service
With the Guarantee, Kiwi.com offers round-the-clock chat, and a reply within 3 hours if you call or message an agent. For extras added through support, Kiwi.com charges no processing fee of its own. On Skyscanner you turn to the partner, and the help page leads to their contact details through a search.

Who suits what
Kiwi.com fits if the cheapest route matters more to you than the most comfortable one and you can live with self-connected flights. The Guarantee deserves a look then. Skyscanner fits if you mainly want to see prices and providers side by side and the partner rating helps. More on Kiwi.com is on our provider page.
