Oman Air is an airline based in Oman that connects Oman with destinations in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. On omanair.com you book directly, with several fare levels in Economy and Business. It makes sense for anyone who wants to tailor baggage and flexibility to their trip.
What you can book there
You book flights in Economy and Business, each in several fares that differ in baggage and flexibility. In Economy they are called Super Saver, Comfort and Flex, in Business Studio, Comfort and Flex. On top there are extras such as seat, baggage and online check-in, and the Sindbad loyalty programme, where you collect miles and can move up in status.
What a booking really costs
The cheapest Economy fare, Super Saver, is on most routes a fare without free checked baggage: the airline lists 0 kilograms of checked baggage, and you may bring one piece of hand baggage up to 7 kilograms. On certain routes, for example to Manila, Baghdad, Mumbai, Delhi, Karachi, Dhaka, Cairo or Zanzibar, higher allowances apply. There it is 20 kilograms on Super Saver, 30 on Comfort and 40 on Flex. On all other routes you can check 20 kilograms on Economy Comfort and 30 on Flex. In Business it is 40 to 60 kilograms, and you may bring two pieces of hand baggage of up to 7 kilograms each.
So do not count on the fare alone. If you need a suitcase, compare Super Saver plus baggage with the Comfort fare. The Comfort fare often ends up not far away, and you have the baggage included. Travellers with an infant get 10 kilograms extra, except on Economy Saver. Sindbad members get additional free baggage depending on their status.
Hold My Booking: keep the price
If you have not decided yet, you can hold the reservation and fare for a fee: 24 hours cost 3 Omani rial, 48 hours 5 and 72 hours 8. The fee is not refunded and is not deducted from the ticket price. Dates and names cannot be changed once the fare is locked, and what is held is the fare without taxes, so a change in taxes can move the total. The option exists only for direct online sales and only for certain fares. The site also mentions a Time to Think option, where you reserve a fare for a period. Read the fees there before you book.
Cancellation and payment
How much you get back on cancellation or rebooking depends on the fare you chose. The cheapest fare is usually the least flexible. The FAQ lists the topics fare bundles, upgrading your bundle after booking and changing your flight. Read your fare conditions before paying and check that the name matches your passport exactly.
Check-in
Online check-in is available from 48 hours before departure. It saves you time at the airport. For return flights in under 24 hours, the FAQ has a separate question about checking in for both flights, so look there.
How to save
The biggest lever is choosing the fare to fit your baggage and being flexible with the date. If you join Sindbad, you get more free baggage depending on your status.
